Crisis, but Manageable, at least in NYC

Flash: I have run out of clean running shorts.

I knew this was coming, but I let the problem go unaddressed for one day too long. The situation got upgraded to code red this morning when I pulled the drawer open. I can't really skip today, I don't have time to do laundry, and I am not going to buy a new pair.

So, for tonight and hopefully just for tonight, I will run after work in a nice pair of tan blended cotton/poly dress shorts. "Not so bad!" you say? Well, wait, there's more as the shorts are not the end of it. As I packed my little running bag this morning, I realized that my sock supply is also running dangerously low. On a day you are going to run in dress shorts, at least to my way of thinking, well hell, you might as well go with black dress socks too, right?

The weird thing is, I am not sure anyone in Manhattan will even notice. Is that a good thing?

I am going to run about six and I am going to use the tiny cinder oval for fun strides. Also, I have decided to shoot for a sub 2 hour marathon. Screw 3:10. Screw Boston.

Good for you on your ingenuity! I smiled (plus a little giggle), as I pictured your outfit for tonight's run.

The tan dress shorts will look nice with the black socks. The only improvement would be to have plaid all-cotton Madras bermuda shorts and black knee-hi's. No doubt some in New York still sport that look. Just be careful the plastic pocket pen/pencil holder doesn't pop out of your pocket!!

Much continued success with your training regimen (and laundry problem).

My best,
L

SHOCKIN' Y'ALL: Pee in bottles, soiled shorts, draining toe blisters...I'm afraid to ask what's next? You should try to engage your readers' senses in more esthetically pleasing ways. Remember the saying, "You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar." However, your posts wouldn't be nearly as realistic and attention-getting if you candy-coated everything!

That aside, what prompted your current plan to go for a sub 2 marathon? Your runs must be going extremely well (or you're losing it)! Maybe you'll come back to your senses and not "screw Boston" after all. You've worked too hard to throw that away; what would a sub 2 prove anyway?

The shorts worked nicely. More on that in today's post.

Regardiing a sub-2 hour marathon, besides being a world record for the event, I am not sure that it WOULD prove anything. (that is more of my ironic humor at work) 3:10 is still my goal, I was just free-wheeling a bit. Maybe the humor didn't work and I should stick with "shock effect" from now on!
